Personal Protective Equipment for Mold Remediation

Our SERVPRO of Monroe / West Monroe Restoration Technicians must don the proper attire to reduce their potential exposure to pathogens and toxins that may be present in contaminated water, mold or trauma scene restorations.  Safety is our number one priority on any job site.  Restoration jobs that involve this type of contamination are referred to by restoration professionals as "Category 3" or "Cat 3" losses.  Specific equipment has been identified by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Institute for Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) as required for technicians working in the remediation of Cat 3 losses.

The minimum required PPE is an impermeable suit such as the Tyvek brand, rubber gloves, foot coverings; goggles and NIOSH N-95 mask or respirator with HEPA and organic vapor cartridges.  The technician must also wear a hard hat if there is contamination from above or other overhead hazards.

If there are areas of the building that are not affected, they must be sealed off from the affected areas before work begins.  Negative air pressure must be maintained within the enclosed affected area at all times to reduce the likelihood of cross-contamination into unaffected areas.  A decontamination chamber, separate from the affected area should also be installed to allow for donning and doffing of the PPE as a measure to further reduce the likelihood of cross-contamination.

The health and safety of our technicians are of paramount concern during mold remediation projects at your home or business. You can expect the same care and concern as we restore your property "Like it never even happened." Please contact SERVPRO of Monroe / West Monroe at (318) 345-5121.
