SERVPRO - Flood Water Extraction Methods To Restore Monroe Homes
As the seat of our parish, Monroe is a little better known than other nearby communities. Unfortunately, like much of Louisiana, our town is also known for its flooding after a major storm.
Professional flood water extraction from Monroe homes requires more than just a large pump to draw out the water. SERVPRO restoration teams understand that it contains soil and other contaminants that pose a health risk to residents, as well as themselves.
To reduce that risk, our technicians spray the surface of standing water and any property that the water covered with an anti-bacterial agent. It kills any bacteria or mold on the surface so they can bring in the equipment needed for water removal and extraction.
SERVPRO team members begin with a commercial grade pump to draw out the standing water, which is the bulk of the flood problem. Since there are still contaminants in the water, they have to direct it all into the nearest sewer opening. If the sewer is blocked or otherwise unusable from the flood, technicians pump everything into a tank truck for disposal.
After team members remove the bulk of the flood water, they concentrate on drawing out the remaining amount from carpets, floors, and walls. Technicians use extraction wands and other devices to pull out water from between and underneath carpet layers, and from between floorboards. As with the standing water, everything they draw out, they dispose of through the sewer or into a tank truck.
While team members can use an anti-bacterial spray to help clean floorboards, there is no method we use that can guarantee 100% that carpets are safe to keep in the home. Team leaders always recommend disposal for every carpet affected by a flood.
When drywall panels and wood floor trim soaked up flood water, our teams can extract it with air movers and dehumidifiers to draw it out of the material. Once they finish this extraction procedure, and if the drywall or trim did not warp or start to crumble in place, they spray the affected surfaces once more with an anti-bacterial agent as part of cleaning them.
