Weather Alert Sign Stay informed and be prepared!

As we enter the annual period of potential severe weather, it's crucial to be prepared for flooding, high winds, and tornado damages, which can threaten lives and property.

Tornado and High Wind Preparations:

  • Identify a safe room within your home or office, preferably on the first level or basement, free of outside walls, windows, and large pieces of glass. Bring blankets for cover during the storm.
  • Inform family members and co-workers about this location in advance.
  • Practice quickly getting to this location with your family, especially if it includes children or aging adults.
  • Include pets in your emergency plans.
  • Provide family members with a list of emergency contact phone numbers and email addresses.
  • Keep bottled water available – a gallon per person is recommended.
  • Keep flashlights with extra batteries and a portable radio for critical information during power outages.
  • Keep necessary medications in a common area for quick access.
  • Ensure essential electronic devices are charged.
  • Stay informed with local weather forecasts and emergency notifications.

Flood Preparations:

  • Determine your evacuation route in advance to an area where flooding isn’t likely, such as emergency shelters or nearby hotels.
  • Prepare up to three days of non-perishable food and enough water for family members (a gallon per person, per day).
  • Prepare changes of clothes for each person for up to three days.
  • Keep flashlights and extra batteries ready for evacuation.
  • Plan to remove valuables and important documents.
